Mythical Creatures and Hilltown Magic
Week June 27-June 30 9:30-3 $360
Come to Sugarhill for our perennially popular immersion into spells, magical creatures, wizards, wand-making, dragons, castles, and potions. We’ll do all the usual Sugarhill activities such as quidditch and woods hikes, add to our forbidden forest, and this year, create a fabulous float for the town of Chesterfield’s 4th of July Parade. Students will build and decorate friends for Buddybeak (our resident hippogriff) as well as create giant trolls and spiders. Participation in the parade is optional but encouraged. Ages 6-12, maximum 14, $360 (As of Feb 2 this session is full. Email sugarhillart.center to be put on the wait list.)

Farm, Forest, and Fairy Houses
July 11-14, Tues-Fri, 9:30-2:30 $350
In this Sugarhill favorite kids will build barns and wagons, make clay animals, and create magical gardens using all our favorite materials: cardboard, sticks,plaster, paint, bark and glue. We will read lots of great stories, play games, and take walks in the woods looking for animals and their homes. We may even build a beaver dam on one of our many forest streams if it is a wet and rainy summer. ages 5-9, maximum 14 2 spots left as of 4/2

Tales of the Arabian Nights
July 17-20, Mon-Thur, 9:30-2:30 $350
Sugarhill artists will draw inspiration from the Tales of the Arabian Nights (and possibly some additional stories/fables from around the world). We’ll have fun painting Persian-inspired miniatures, weaving a small tapestry, discovering the beauty of Arabic calligraphy and gold leaf creating a clay vessel for a genii, sculpting lions, making patterned mosaics, and exploring architectural and costume motifs from faraway lands. The usual walks in the woods, games, skits and interviews will be part of this new exploration. ages 5-9. maximum 14

Adult Weekend Forest Studio

Come paint, print, and sculpt with clay at Sugarhill Art. We’ll start with big brushes, large paper and a fabulous meandering still-life. Our initial creations will become a launchpad for new multimedia work. Cyndy and Joanna will show slides from art history, do demonstrations with new materials, and help everyone create an ideas sketchbook. Mornings will be spent focusing on 2-D work, and in the afternoon we’ll pivot to clay. Bring your own lunch-we will serve afternoon tea. There will be time to offer supportive critiques of each other's work, talk about favorite artists, and share creative ideas. Bring your favorite pens for doodling. maximum 8,

Travel with Cyndy and Joanna for 6 days through southern Bavaria, Germany and into Austria, ending in Vienna. We will draw and paint our way through southern Germany making stops for good food and spending evenings in cozy Gästhäuser. We’ll visit the Alte & Neue Pinakothek and Glyptothek in Munich, where we’ll look at Durer’s famous self-portrait, the amazing vases of Exekias, and vibrant works from German Expressionism. From Munich we will take the train to Murnau in the foothills of the Alps, home of Gabrielle Munter and for a time, Wasily Kandinsky. On day 4 we will leave Murnau for Salzburg and spend our final two days traipsing around Vienna. Leave your life behind for 7 days of sketching, painting, good conversations, food, wine and evening slideshows,
